Paddy’s Class

Hello from Paddy D’s 4th class!

2024 February:

We have been working hard on our class line and we are happy to have won line of the week this week!

In maths we have been working hard. We have been learning about long multiplication, fractions and decimals.

In PE we have started preparations for the upcoming Seachtain na Gaeilge by learning our Irish dance. Our class dance is The Fairy Reel – Cór na Síog. We are looking forward to the ceili – it will be fun! We are practising the dance in groups of 6 people, 3 facing 3. There are a lot of tricky parts to the dance but when we work together as a team we got it right in our practises so far. Our favourite part of the dance is the square and diamond.

Also in PE we have started swimming lessons at the National Aquatic Centre on Tuesdays. We have enjoyed going there on the bus and gaining confidence in the water so far! We are looking forward to the rest of our lessons.

We are excited that it is now springtime. We were inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night, Sunflowers and the Iris’s painting to create our own art pieces. We used blue, black, green, purple, yellow, brown and white paint to create our own lovely artwork. We are happy with how they turned out.

January:

Say Yes to Languages – We have been lucky to get the opportunity to learn French! Our French teacher is called Alice. She visits our class on Tuesdays and we have been learning French songs, phrases and words. We have also done som efun written activities.

We have started learning the tracks for the Big Sing concert which will be taking place in April 2024. The 3rd and 4th class children from ACETNS are participating in this programme this year. There are a wide range of fun songs and we are enjoying singing together! The Barbie medley and Firework are some of our favourites. 60 children from 3rd and 4th class will be performing on April 15th in The Big Sing show.

In SESE we have been studying Italy. We used chromebooks to gather information and made our own projects on Italy.

December: We had fun at the Christmas assembly. We performed Rocking Around The Christmas Tree.

Intercultural week 4th – 8th December.

Our class was learning about Morocco. An interesting fact about Morocco is that couscous is a popular food there.

We really enjoyed taking part in the Cycle Safe course. We learned a lot. It was a great experience to cycle on the road using hand signals. Always wear your helmet and be aware of your surroundings!

November: We learned about Diwali.

We went on class visits to the Astro turf and had so much fun!

We are now in the season of autumn. We painted lovely autumn trees in our art lesson.

In our science lessons we learned about space travel and exploration. We learned about atoms and how they are the building blocks of everything.

Then we created amazing pastel drawings of planets in space in our art lesson.

We are lucky to have so many different languages spoken in ACETNS. We have been talking about our heritage languages.

At the senior assembly Mustafa represented our class and taught everyone how to say “Hello” in Pashtu.
