Anna Rose’s Class

FEBRUARY

On Tuesday 22/2/22 we had a very exciting day. First we left the school at 8:37am to walk to the train station in Adamstown. We then took the 9:07 train to Heuston Station, and crossed the River Liffey from the southside of Dublin to enter the northside and into Phoenix Park. Next we went to the playground next to the People’s Flower Garden for lunch and to play. We started to head to Phoenix Park Bike rentals and collected a bike and a helmet for everyone. We cycled down Chesterfield Avenue and took a left towards The Magazine Fort. As we were cycling near The Magazine Fort it started to rain very heavily. We noticed a herd of deer running straight for us and then a different group (disclaimer no one was harmed). We also saw the Popes cross, Tom told us that when Pope John Paul II visited Ireland in 1979 a 1/3 (1,250,000 people ) of the population went to Phoenix Park to see the pope. As we were going back to return our bike we saw the U.S Ambassador’s Residence which looked like the White House. We took a picture in front of the Áras an Uachtaráin (aka the president’s house). We returned our bikes after some very angry OPW members gave out to us. Then we had our lunch at the Wellington Monument which is dedicated to the battle of Waterloo and is the 2nd largest obelisk in the world after the Washington Monument. With full bellies we headed back to Heuston station and took the 1:20 train back to Adamstown. We arrived 15 minutes later, safe and sound, and looking forward to the next trip 🙂
