ACETNS Host Week April 4th- 6th

This week we hosted three teachers from Sweden and four teachers from Portugal in the first mobility of the Erasmus project. The visit proved to be a great success and the teachers experinced Irish and ACETNS culture at it’s bvery best over the three days.

On Monday, our visiting teachers were greeted at their hotels by Kevin and Aisling and were greeted by children in Clíodhna’s and Graham’s class waving Swedish and Portugese flags when they arrived at the school. This was followed by a welcome breakfast in the hall and a tour of the school. Denis, Tom and Aisling then hosted a workshop on Educate Together and the Etics curriculum. The teachers then viewed a GAA lesson by Diarmuid and Gráinne.

On Tuesday some staff of ACETNS accompanied the teachers to Croke Park and the Guinness Storehouse for their Irish cultural tour day.

On Wednesday our visitors returned to the school and were treated to a fantastic céilí organised by Zara and our musically talented teachers played traditional Irish songs in the hall. A workshop based on the theme ‘Cultures in School’ was run by Denis and proved for some interesting discussions from all three schools. Finally we presented our visitors with presents of a bodhrán and mini hurley and bid our friends farewell for now.

ACETNS are delighted to be the host school in a project with three other schools from England, Portugal and Sweden. The theme of our project is sharing best practice with regard to the Multicultural Class.

As part of this project we have arranged Skype calls between Student Council in the different schools, regular online meeting between teachers in the schools and the sharing of a mascot (Blueberry), who has travelled to the various countries. We have also created a shared story which each country has co written.

There will also be teacher mobilities between the countries:

April 3rd-7th: Adamstown, Dublin

15th-19th May: Sweden

29th May- 2nd June: Portugal
