ACETNS Seachtain na Gaeilge Céilí 2024

Wow – what a day! The ACETNS students and staff had great fun at the two céilí on Thursday 14th March (Junior & Senior). The children had been working hard at their Irish dancing in their P.E. lessons over the last few weeks in preparation led by Zara, Anna Rose & Molly. Zara was the MC for both events on the day.

The group dances that were taught throughout the school were:

  • The Marching dance
  • An Damhsa Mór  – The Big Dance
  • Ballaí Luímní  – Walls of Limerick
  • Ionsaí na hÍnse – Siege of Ennis
  • Port na Fhomhair – Harvest Time Jig
  • Cor na Síog – Fairy Reel
  • Cor Ceathrair – 4 hand reel
  • Plearacha na Banndan – Humours of Bandon

The céilí showcased all of the students’ hard work – excellent dancing! Great to see the school community embrace Irish culture and also get some great exercise through all of the dance moves!

We have a lot of talented musicians on our staff here at ACTENS. We were lucky to have a full band to play some tunes live on the day.

This band was made up of our teaching staff. The instruments played were:

  • Guitar (Clíodhna, Emily, John)
  • Mandolin (John)
  • Flute (CJ)
  • Low whistle (CJ)
  • Cajon (Aisling M)
  • Xylophone (Grace)
  • Bodhrán (Zara)

We also have some teaching staff who dusted off their dancing shoes to perform some Irish dances! Zara, Molly and Anna Rose performed a light shoe slip jig (port luascadh) accompanied by the staff trad band.

They also performed an acapella dance in their hard shoes.

Lots of craic agus ceol  – Maith sibh!

There were also some lovely songs which were performed as Gaeilge

  • Is Mise an Traein
  • Léimigí, casaigí
  • Peigín leitir móir

We were also lucky to have some students from 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class that volunteered to perform some solo dances.

They performed the following dances:

  • Bun ríl Beginners reel
  • Bun port éadrom Beginners light jig
  • Tus ríl Hard reel
  • Tus Port Luascadh Hard slip jig
  • Tus Port Singil Hard single jigs

Well done to Jana, Natalia, Namrata, Jude, Oliwia, Emily, Mariana, Moya, Ieva and Naysa – Maith sibh!

It was a lovely day. Brilliant to see the school community dancing, singing and clapping along and enjoying the Irish tunes, songs and dances. Well done to all students and staff – Maith sibh!
