2nd Classes trip to The National Art Gallery

First we viewed Daniel Maclise’s painting of Strongbow’s marriage to Aoife.

Next we viewed some of Jack Yeat’s oil paintings.

We particularly liked The Liffey swim in which he featured himself and his wife. We learned that this painting was awarded a silver medal in the Art category of the Olympic games in 1924 and Above the fair one of his abstract art pieces.

Next we viewed some of John Lavery’s work.

Below is his painting The artists studio in which he features his wife and daughter. He has cleverly painted himself in this painting also, can you spot him in the background?

If you look closely the artist has painted his reflection in the mirror.

In mystery the soul abides!

These are our best thinking expressions.

Next we viewed a painting of Lexlip in 1891 by Richard Thomas Motnan titled Military manoeuvres.

From here we moved on to view some of William Leech’s work ; a beautiful painting of his first wife Elizabeth in his painting A convent garden and a sculpture of his second wife May. Inaya began replicating his painting later in the day when we moved to the Galleries creative space.

Finally we viewed some of Eskine Nicol’s work including his painting Donnybrook fair from which the colloquialism of a Donnybrook came.

We spent some time exploring the creative space in the gallery before returning home

Reptile Show

Emily and Jane’s Support Classes had a brilliant time today at the reptile show in Lucan Library. There were lots of different reptiles to see, such as tortoises, snakes, bearded dragons and lizards.

Thank you to Lucan Library and The National Reptile Zoo for having us.
